THE FIRST LITTER: 6 Boys. Our children were boys and so was this litter (We call it the BROWN CURSE). The dog which we kept became Ch. Bluebeard's Country Squire (Tuffy)- the #2 Kerry in 1989, also owner handled, and the winner of the U. S. Kerry Blue Terrier Specialty at Montgomery that year.

Since that time, we have always bred for quality, not quantity. We don't breed dogs to sell them, but we also feel that the ones who are not being shown deserve to have wonderful homes. If we are not bringing them out with us, they should be in homes where they are loved, sleep on the bed, get too many cookies and generally go everywhere with their owners. To this day, we only breed when we have a bitch we are crazy about and then we find the very best dog we can to breed to her. At times, there were litters from which we kept nothing. At this time, we leased and co-owned a beautiful bitch from Omalou McBride, Ch. McBees Bound to Be (Mary Kay). We bred her to Tuffy and got our Ch. Bluebeard's Muldoon of McBee, Ch. McBee's Lana Bluebeard and Ch. McBee's Admiral Bluebeard along with 6 other littermates. We then bred Simi to Ch. Tontine's American Hero (Ollie)

One of Simi's daughters (Betty) was the typiest bitch, although on the small side (17"). We needed to get some size into our line, so I asked our friend Lou Perry, who has always given me great advice, where I could possibly go with this bitch. She recommended Ch. Tontine's Quiet Riot, a very sound dog, dripping in Kerry type and a bit on the big side. We had a litter of 4, which I kept for 6 months before I let any of them go. It was surely the prettiest litter we have had.

The star emerged – Ch. Bluebeard's One of a Kind (Moxie). He was number 1 Kerry Blue Terrier in 1999 and 2000 - owner handled - and won the Pedigree Award both of those years. He has been a dog who made us very proud. He won the U. S. Kerry Blue Terrier Club National Traveling Specialty in 2000, as well as an all-breed Best in Show – (always owner-handled).

We saw the future of this breed continuing with Moxie's littermate, Ch. Bluebeard's The It Girl (Mona), who had a litter out of Ch. Torum's Scarf Michael - the top dog all breeds in 2001. We kept the whole litter, one boy and two girls.

The male, Ch. Bluebeard's The Answer (Allen), was #1 Kerry in the country in 2004 and 2005. He has produced some very beautiful pups.

The bitches are Ch. Bluebeard's Liverpool Kiss (Renny), and Ch. Bluebeard's The Look (Taryn) who we continued on with.

Taryn was bred to Ch. Kallehan's Truth or Dare and we kept Bluebeard's Mr. Corless (PJ) and Bluebeard's Suddenly Bridey (Bridey). They are still young, but we have high hopes for them.

For anyone who is thinking of beginning a breeding program, the only advice I can give you is to breed only when you think there is a good chance of getting something at least as good or better than you already have. Don't let a high stud fee frighten you, you would pay at least that amount for the Kerry of your Dreams.
